As I said in yesterday’s blog, Day 3 of my personal sketchbook didn’t go all that well. I struggled with the bumpy surface of the cold-press watercolor paper and the tiny brush that came with my new watercolor travel set. Then I made it worse by trying to fix it with colored pencils– they don’t work very well on the bumpy paper either.
I was frustrated with my finished sketchbook page but posted it here anyway, hopeful that seeing my struggles was useful, a sort of what not to do.
Today had the real potential of not going well either–a migraine sidelined me for several hours. But after it eased (thank you, Ubrelvy) I decided to stick to my commitment and do a sketchbook page. For my art supplies I opted for a sketchbook with smooth paper and colored pencils instead of watercolors. For my inspiration, I used a couple of photos I took at the lake yesterday. I drew two small vignettes on the page.
Below is a photo of a Canada Goose and my little sketch of it:

And this is a horse in a field near the lake:

I’m feeling better about these sketches than yesterday’s efforts, especially given they were done during a migraine hangover. For the rest of the challenge, I think that I’ll stick with the colored pencils.
See you tomorrow for Day 5 of my sketchbook challenge!
