Day #2 of attempts to illustrate a cat

So yesterday, I announced that I’m getting back to my efforts at illustrating a little story I made up for my kids years ago. It’s about a cat who everyone thinks is mean, but isn’t.

Yesterday I practiced drawing cats. Lots of cats in various positions–licking a paw, laying down, sitting. First of all, cats are hard, for me anyway. And making all of those cats look like the same cat?? I found it nearly impossible.

Anyway, I decided to continue with the frustration today and pulled out my watercolors to see how that would go. Yeah. About as you would expect.

There is SO MUCH wrong with this whole thing. About all I can say is that it’s identifiable as a cat. I hope. It’s too broad, the eyes are off, I clearly have to practice drawing paws…sigh. But as I said yesterday, these are the starting point.

My goal is to be able to look back in a month, six months, and say “Wow, I sure came a long way since then!” That’s the plan, anyway. And if I can pull it off, I’m hoping I can inspire somebody else. Hopefully they’ll be able to look at my posts in the future and say “This one blogger was pretty bad at illustrating cats, but she kept at it and got…not too bad!” 🙂
